Notice that the Parks and Recreation allows "to sue and be sued". The Metropolitan Park District does not.

Comparing the three types of recreational districts

Post by Fun CH »

Out of the three options, the FOP chose the Metropolitan Park District which offers a non-elected Board of Commissioners, who set their own salary,* unfetted access to public tax dollars.

That option removes any further voter control on how they want their tax dollars used and is ripe for abuse. Don't want that new indoor climbing and treadmill gym center next to the Mega Spa, too bad. If the board commissioners want it, they got it and we pay for it.

So why did they choose that option over the other two?

* elected officials like County Commissioners and town mayors do not get paid for sitting on this board, although it does take time away from their paid job that we hired them to do.
