AI/WSJ:
U.S. government spending is higher in 2025 compared to 2024. The U.S. government has spent $6.75 trillion in fiscal year 2024, resulting in a deficit. In the first five months of fiscal year 2025, the federal budget deficit totaled $1.1 trillion, a $319 billion increase compared to the same period last year.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Fiscal Year 2024:
The federal government spent $6.75 trillion, which was more than it collected in revenue, resulting in a deficit.
Fiscal Year 2025 (First Five Months):
The deficit reached $1.1 trillion, a significant increase from the previous year.
Overall Trend:
While some have attributed efforts to reduce spending, data shows that the federal government is spending more in 2025 compared to 2024.
Factors Contributing to Higher Spending:
The increase in spending is due to factors such as rising interest payments, costs for entitlement programs (like Social Security and Medicare), and rising defense budgets.
Impact on Deficit:
The higher spending is directly contributing to the increase in the federal budget deficit.
Additional context:
The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) estimates that the U.S. borrowed $599 billion from January through March 2025, an increase of $44 billion from the same period in 2024.
The Wall Street Journal reported that federal spending is higher since President Trump took office, despite efforts to cut costs.
The Cato Institute notes that spending has grown at a faster pace than revenues, leading to the current deficits.

Trouble with memes is that too often they lack resourcing so please find a resource that says there's a Tesla tax. Did it for ya, thinking you wouldn't get a link. https://www.theolympian.com/news/politi ... 71676.html
After watching the Tesla quarterly financial status where they barely stayed afloat, largely because of the chits they sold manufacturers which haven't met the electrification goals, this now makes more sense. Context always helps.

As an example of how childish and idiotic the legislators in Olympia are note the tax in the top right of the photo in my original post.

Here is prime example of waste of state funds. Paying workers unemployment after they voted to go on strike, matters not if the get 4 weeks 12 weeks or even 1 day the workers voted to not work they either have money set aside or stand on street corner and panhandke

With the downturn in tourism and real estate, plus business contraction the various tax income will be lowered in '25 which makes this even more of a challenge.

The feds didn't put the state into a 16B budget shortfall it was causes by reckless, uncontrolled and Un necessary spending by the state.

Yes, and read the articles I posted about the situation. And we do not live in an isolated state, what the Feds do or don't do impacts our economy and the WA legislators have to take that into consideration. The way the Trump admin has tossed out so many resources that were Federally funded or contributed to with no warning to states means all the legislatures are scrambling to cover the holes in the budget.

Re: Democrats taxapalooza
And when we pay the Fed'l govt their required taxes, DOGE has cut the resources we paid for and the State govts are being forced to pick up the slack but with no $ coming in to them from the Fed's. Instead, all the cuts that are being taken to fund our resources are going to the billionaires to fund their tax cuts. Taxation without representation at work.

The critical government services we need to even exist aren't going to pay for themselves, though.

Trump's taxes on the American consumer will add over $2,000 to the American consumer's tab each year.

Re: Democrats taxapalooza
What about a wealth tax? I thought I read somewhere that they are cutting spending. The state parks, for example.
As you know, some of our taxes pay for things like fire protection, road repair, etc. The worst is the reliance on property taxes to pay for some services. If all use the service, all should pay. You know what that would mean. Reduce property taxes by alot and, you won't like this, a state income tax. It would have to have something in there for those that make below a certain income.
Any suggestions of what they could cut that would not hurt the worker bees?
