Of course, they think he went north, because of his asking about getting a job in Canada. He could very well have gone south. He could very well have had a ride. Maybe didn't leave on foot. One handprint on the truck has now become two. He has to be treated like a trickster. Or could be right under people's noses. One thing someone said on a discussion is that this is like an adult imagination station.

DHS and the Park Service do have remote sensing gear monitoring trails near the border, I'd assume the USFS does too.

So it seems reasonable to redeploy some of that gear further south to look for where this jerk has to be.

Sedro Woolley, WA– Park officials have closed trails in Lake Chelan National Recreation Area within North Cascades National Park Service Complex. The following roads, areas, and trails are closed, including backcountry camps and cross-country zones along closed trails:

Stehekin Valley Road past the Stehekin Valley Ranch
Pacific Crest Trail within the park complex (Agnes Creek, Old Wagon, and Bridge Creek trails)
Agnes Gorge Trail
Rainbow Lake Trail
Rainbow Creek Trail
McAlester Lake Trail
Twisp Pass Trail (to USFS border)
Stiletto Spur Trail
North Fork Bridge Creek Trail
Flat Creek Trail
Park Creek Trail from Park Creek Pass to the junction with Upper Stehekin Valley Trail
Upper Stehekin Valley Trail to junction with Horseshoe Basin Trail

Trails are closed until further notice due to ongoing search operations for a suspect in Chelan County.

The suspect has been identified as Travis Decker. Decker was last seen wearing a light colored shirt and dark shorts. Do not approach, the suspect is dangerous and may be armed. That's pretty much everything in the E side of the park except for the trail from Cascade Pass to the Horseshoe Basin Trail just above Basin Creek Camp ,the Purple Creek Trail, and the Lakeshore Trail.

You are hired! Seems like I heard alot of small plane activity up Twisp River yesterday. Maybe a wild animal will eat him.

Based on the size of the closed area they are looking for him pretty close to where all this went down and not up here.

If they think, for some reason, that he is heading north on the PCT (maybe to escape to Canada) there are a number of obvious choke points between here and there and I'd think they would just watch and wait at those choke points. Or throw a monkeywrench in his plans by perhaps temporarily removing the bridge over the Suiattle River or over Agnes Creek. Because if he is going that way in early June he's going to have to use those bridges.

I was on a group chat late afternoon/evening with a group of 5 people who monitor scanners, police and emergency channels, and the police were all over the place vehicles racing north at 80 mph, sirens going off, mad dashes here and there and at one point various ambulances parked at one area awaiting the outcome. It was craziness.

There is a Blackpine Horse Camp on the Icicle River Road.

Monitoring scanner, they were tracking his cell phone and ended up closing Black Pine Lake. Sirens were going off in Winthrop. Police from as far away as Arizona are involved. At this point it's more chaos than anything, They did have someone catch him on a wildlife camera but no explanation where that was. Lots and lots and lots of speculation.

... which most likely puts him S of Glacier Peak and N of Stevens Pass if he decided to go this way.

I would think that very few people would be on that stretch of trail this time of year, so even if you couldn't find him an aerial search would turn up footprints along that long traverse between White Pass and Red Pass high above the Sauk River.

Although I personally doubt he will get that far.

David is right….he was last in the Icicle/Eightmile area on Monday. No way could he be up here….either via the PCT or even in the Sawtooth in 3 days.

Unless he has super powers he can't possibly have made it this far on foot. Especially when the high elevations on the crest and around Glacier Peak are still pretty full of snow.
