Re: Israel's attack on Iran
It is now widely agreed the JCPOA was a completely stupid completely enabling dumb agreement, Trump was wise to dump it first term and I think his support of Israel's action now will go down in history as the right move for this time. You idiots are wrong over and over but still you step on that rake!

Israel's attack on Iran
seen elsewhere:
"I keep seeing “explain Iran to me like I’m dumb”
I hope this helps.
In 2015, under Obama, the U.S. and six world powers (UK, France, Germany, China, Russia, and the EU) reached a deal with Iran called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA). It was based on strict, verifiable limits.
Here’s what Iran agreed to:
+ Enrich uranium no higher than 3.67% (far below weapons-grade),
+ Cut its uranium stockpile by 98%,
+ Run only 6,000 older centrifuges (out of 19,000),
+ Redesign its heavy-water reactor so it couldn’t produce weapons-grade plutonium,
+ Allow 24/7 surveillance and inspections by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The deal worked. For over two years, the IAEA confirmed Iran was complying. They were farther from a bomb than they’d been in years.
But in 2018, Trump pulled the U.S. out, calling it a “bad deal”, despite Iran’s verified compliance. He promised to force a better agreement through “maximum pressure” by reimposing sanctions. But no new deal ever materialized.
Netanyahu, of Israel, didn’t like the deal and still thought Iran was “lying.” He wanted a stricter deal, too, but I feel like maybe they should have organized that deal before pulling Obama’s. His (Trump’s) most recent proposed deal was actually the same as Obama’s, but worse.
Netanyahu and Trump are politically aligned. Both have a hard stance against Iran, and both sought to undermine Obama. Netanyahu lobbied Congress against the deal in 2015, even speaking to Congress without Obama’s approval.
Iran waited about a year, hoping the other countries in the deal could salvage it. But eventually, it resumed enriching uranium, ramping up to 60% purity (almost weapons-grade), restarted advanced centrifuges, and reduced access for inspectors.
Now in 2025, Iran is much closer to a nuclear weapon, with a growing stockpile, advanced technology, and far less international oversight.
The JCPOA wasn’t perfect, but it dramatically slowed Iran’s nuclear progress and gave inspectors full access. Our U.S. Intelligence, when it was some of the best in the world, told Congress Iran was dangerous, but that they had a solid hold on Irans capabilities and believed the JCPOA was good until something else could be worked out. Trump doesn’t listen. Walking away without a replacement backfired, Iran escalated, and global security got worse.
The WSJ initially reported that Trump told Israel to hold off on the attack while he continued diplomatic relations with Iran. Unfortunately, Trump then admitted he knew about the whole thing, and called it “excellent.”
Now, Iran has pledged to make Israel AND the United States pay for this. Tehran claims Washington “shares full responsibility” for the attacks.
Iran’s Foreign Ministry affirmed it has the “legal and legitimate” right to respond to Israeli strikes under international law, and warned the U.S. would also be held accountable.
The Iranian Defense Minister openly threatened that all U.S. bases in the region are within Iran’s reach, warning of bold counterstrikes if a conflict is forced upon them.
They reaffirmed they’d target U.S. interests alongside Israel if provoked.
In reaction to the strikes, Iran made clear it would suspend participation in the next round of nuclear negotiations scheduled for mid June.
I hope this helps.
