If You Want to Know Who Won the Debate, Watch Fox News the Moment It Ended

Tuning into Fox News following Tuesday’s presidential debate, it was hard to describe the mood. Somber comes to mind—a little like you might find at a funeral, perhaps for a beloved cat consumed by a political boogeyman.

Donald Trump had just spent almost all of his 90-minute debate with Kamala Harris ranting into his microphone in a 180-degree contrast from his last appearance against Joe Biden. If he kept it together for the first little bit, Trump quickly fell into the traps Harris laid for him—about his crowd sizes, his reputation among military chiefs, his standing among world leaders—and the results were grim. To anyone watching who might have forgotten what the Trump years were like, it was a stark reminder.

When the ABC moderators finally wrapped things up and the lights came up on the Fox News panel, the anchors seemed just as rattled as viewers at home. You instantly knew things were bleak when host Jesse Watters tried to insist that there had been no winners. “I don’t think the American people are watching and thinking any of these people won,” Watters stammered out. He then conceded, “This was rough. This was pretty intense at times.”

Brit Hume, the network’s chief political analyst, was starker. “Make no mistake about it: Trump had a bad night,” Hume told the Fox viewers. “This was pretty much her night.” Sounding exasperated, Hume complained that Trump had been repeatedly baited by Harris, leading Trump to relitigate “so many of the old grievances that we had long thought Trump had learned were not winners politically.” Harris, meanwhile, was composed and prepared, Hume said: “She kept her cool.”

“You’re saying she had a good night?” host Bret Baier asked him.

“I’m saying she certainly did,” Hume said sternly.

On MSNBC, the difference could not have been starker. Chris Hayes seemed unable to sit still from excitement. Lawrence O’Donnell was giddily proclaiming Harris had turned in the best performance ever in a presidential debate. Rachel Maddow gleefully read out the breaking news of Taylor Swift’s endorsement of the Harris ticket live on air to Gov. Tim Walz as if it were a message from God.'

So a singer voices her opinion sorry but in my 76 years I have needed important people such as, Carpenters, Plumbers, Electricians, Auto Mechanics, Doctors and Nurses, even Delivery People, but not once can I ever recall needing an actor, singer or pro athlete so their opinions mean diddley squat, just another overpaid loud mouthed voice that thinks they are important.
Yes, and we see so many of those people speaking at Trumpanzee rallies.

The simple fact of the matter, for reasons that are completely bizarre to normal sane people, is that this is going to be a close election. Any support, in particular any support that might encourage young women to vote, is going to help. But racists and misogynists can't figure that out.

Also, washed-up musicians (cough cough Ted Nugent and Kid Rock) feature prominently in Trumptard world. At least Ted Nugent actually wrote some decent music: half a century ago.

Tim Miller: 'just spoke with Lindsey Graham in the spin room. He said the debate team should be fired and Trump was an unprepared disaster.'

When Trump brought up the Ohio charge of pets being eaten by Haitian immigrants you could actually hear the moderators gasp. That conspiracy theory is simply laughable and it was great to see them fact check it on the spot.

Trump came across as a tired old man who was easily baited, lost his train of thought, could only offer up 'a concept of a plan' (which sounded eerily like Rudy's defense of Trump's attempted coup when he said 'we have lots of theories just no evidence) So after 9 years Trump still has no actual plan to make healthcare better.

Trump's close where he attempted to charge Harris with having lots of good ideas (an admission) but that the Biden admin hadn't implemented them entirely missed the target when he didn't follow up with the obvious statement that his admin will deliver only underscored that he will not deliver.

After watching debate after debate where Trump intimidated his opponents into giving flat performances I didn't know what to expect so when Harris managed to get her own policies out in front of the viewers while successfully baiting Trump where all he had left was a conspiracy about Haitians eating peoples' pets in Ohio it was game over. Harris met the moment.

Congrats verne - once again - you managed to insert a racially biased term from the ‘70’s. Go Crotch.

Jim not sure what world you live in but there was nothing racially biased about the comment of Joe sh** the Rag man being better than either of the people on last night's debate stage. Or would you of preferred Joe the Plumber?

Seems to me like it is a debate between a more or less normal politician with a functioning brain and somebody having a serious mental health issue.
