Yep ev registration has an additional $100 fee to make up for the fuel taxes they aren't paying

It really helps if you read the Bill using Ray's link. Everything is addressed there, including how this will impact EV drivers and btw it's a long way off.

Ok, thanks Ken regarding your registration. So they are paying. Good.

EV drivers already pay, our registration is tripled from a similar sized vehicle (far above the averaged gas tax equivalent). This is more Dem in full control boondoggle because they refuse to show any fiscal responsibility (like what's finally happening federally) and let their ideology run everything (and they REALLY love to control everyone!)

And those from out of state? Same type of clock in method?

Looks like the tax would be less than we're paying at the pump now and would benefit anyone who drives a vehicle that gets poor mileage.
I expect there will be a way to clock out if one makes a trip over the border, pretty easy.

Good questions Ray. And it hits we rural people harder. Guess that is what we get for living out here.
Wonder why they can't charge people that drive EV's some kind of fee. It would be viewed as a "punishment" however, when the lawmakers are just trying to find a way for EV owners to help pay for the roads they use too.

How will out of state users be taxed for wear and tear on our road systems?
If we travel out of state, will we be taxed for those miles?

That's what the article says, this is to REPLACE the tax at the pump. There would still be a Fed'l tax.

As long as they drop the tax at the pump but that is the only way it would be fair to us that use gas powered vehicles.

'In the new proposed road usage charge, drivers would pay a fee based on the number of miles they drive rather than the amount of gas they consume. According to lawmakers, the idea is that a per-mile fee more accurately reflects the wear and tear a vehicle places on public roads.'
So this is a replacement tax.

Agree it is a good idea as long as they only charge the mileage tax on EV's as IC vehicles would be double taxed, gas tax and mileage tax. And isn't because of the EV's they are loosing tax dollars that they waste and misspend

Seems pretty smart to me. It would pick up the tax dollars lost at the pump by electric vehicles and be cheaper than driving now with the state tax we pay at the pump. Though both ways of taxing reflect the mileage on the roads that cause wear and tear, electric vehicles that are not now paying into the transportation coffers are heavier and thus cause more damage to our road infrastructure.
