How donnie is seen outside the US

Ive been thinking about how America is now being viewed by those in other Countries - specifically how they view PEE-PANTS donnie. I wrote this 5 or so years ago:
Laughing stock? Here is laughing stock for you….
Most US folks who don’t travel outside this country (can’t count Canada and Mexico) don’t realize;
a) how much disdain Guilty donnie is held elsewhere, and
b) just how far US prestige has fallen because of trump (and to a lesser extent Geo Bush before him)…
Some examples: In 2018/19 I was in Scotland. An anecdote from my interaction in a pub, there….
I’d joined – at the invitation of an acquaintance from my previous visits there – a group of guys on Friday night for a few beers. I’d been lucky enough to sit with this group several times. It’s a VERY cool, eclectic and interesting group…all retired and in their mid 60s to early-80’s. There were several public workers (a fireman, a teacher), an electrician, an Engineer, an MD, a union organizer and a retired minister…a couple others. These friday evenings usually had 8 to 10+ guys, mostly all from the same neighborhood; these guys have been gathering for a few beers most Friday nights for more than 35 years!
They seemed - overall - a pretty conservative bunch, I think. I know there is one Labour Party voter, at least one LibDem, a couple Scottish National party supporters…but overall, pretty conservative. And argue…they just LOVE to REALLY argue and talk trash to each other!
The evening when I was there…after other arguments….and several beers into the night – trump’s name came up in a pause in the conversation. I asked “soooo…what do you guys think of him?”
Without ANY further comment or prompting from me, the comments were: (VERY coarse - but not unusual - British pub language ensues):
“He’s a f*cking pr*ck”!,
“A c*nt” (which has a different meaning in the UK)
“A wanker” (UK jargon for a jag off),
“An arse”,
“A baw-bag” – a scrotum in Scotland
“A plonker”(a d*ck),
“An abomination to God and the rest of humanity” (the retired Minister there),
“A bell end” (another d*ck euphemism),
“A useless f*cking clown”….
….. and on around the table.
One then looked at me and said - paraphrasing Winston Churchill’s famous comment about the US – “you Americans can usually be relied on to do the right thing….although sometime it might take a while.” He then went on “But, have you lot all lost your f*cking minds!? What WERE you thinking electing that useless mor*n!”
15+ years earlier - I heard the same comments about Bush Junior. Brits did NOT care for the lies he told to get them to join the US in the Iraq debacle.
The idea that the Pee-pants is going to raise the stature of the US in 2025…..or that the Biden Presidency resulted in some fall of US stature in the World is laughable. The poor regard for the US is - unfortunately - not new.
About the same time, when I was in the UK, I had quite a few people ask me, repeatedly – after they’d heard my accent - “Are you Canadian?”. I thought this was a VERY odd question, since there are FAR more American tourists and residents than there are Canadians in the UK. After this happened on 4 or 5 occasions, I asked one of my UK friends, “why would strangers ask if I am Canadian?” He sheepishly replied “well…if you WERE Canadian, then they wouldn’t want to insult you by assuming you are an American. A lot of people are not crazy about Americans right now. So they kindly assume you are Canadian, even if they suspect you are not”.
Yep…America’s reputation in the world has fallen THAT far! People now have to pretend we are Canadian to like us!.
